Re: General Politics
Yeah I have just seen that here.
"Trump's corruption has reached an entirely new level. The $1.7B slush fund is just outright theft. And no Republican owes such bind allegiance to the president to defend this."

Tulsi "Russia-1" Gabbard resigns "to spend time with her family"
Throughout her insane career, she has peddled disinformation from Putin and done Trump's bidding. Her reign - but mostly her boss's - has been so notoriously incompetent and untrustworthy that other nations are scared to share their Intelligence with us.

The "Justice" department deletes press release detailing charges against Jan 6th insurrectionists
They make it sounds like the insurrectionists were just doing nothing and inexplicably charged when in reality, they were spraying bear spray at people, chasing cops, smearing feces on the walls, and jumping over seats with a fistful of zipties to "stop the steal" (i.e. override American voters by attempting to stop - with violence - the certification of a lawful election because they didn't like the results). In most countries, that's a very serious crime and a deeply troubling politically-motivated attempt to undermine democracy. Over here, it's not a crime because the President openly backs the thugs and his hostility towards democracy is no longer a secret. The move to wipe hundreds of press releases from the official government site is the latest attempt by the Trump administration to reframe the Jan. 6 siege and to paint the rioters who participated in it as victims.
On his first day back in office, President Donald Trump mass pardoned the rioters. Soon after, Justice Department officials and FBI agents who were a part of the Jan. 6 investigation and prosecutions were fired.
And this week, the Justice Department announced a $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund aimed to compensate those who “suffered weaponization and lawfare.”

A bit of a slow reaction time, but I'll take it. Also, I like her Gorija shirt. I'm sorely tempted to explain the lyrics of their Olympic hit Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!) combined with the fact that wealth distribution in the US right now is worse than when the French Revolution started. But the stage performance kinda speaks for itself. No Kings!

Re: General Politics
It's only when they get poked themselves. Plenty are so vile they will gladly screw themselves just to "own the libs". I heard a farmer say had to sell his family farm, but he's still sure Trump is doing the righteous things.
Re: General Politics

I remember the Idiocracy future being thoroughly insufferable but at least it was still a democracy and the officials were well-meaning but just idiotic/incompetent. That's a huge upgrade over what we ultimately got.
Re: General Politics
Good point.
Re: General Politics
We had a nice dinner with some of our remaining friends who didn't go down the conspiracy, racist, anti-science shit hole. The sentiments range from the "country is done" to "it will all blow over sometime." I am leaning towards the notion that we are spiraling down faster than we know. The world's trust does not come back fast, and this happened to be a very critical moment to fuck up. Empires rise and empires fade. We are rotting from the inside out.

ICE goons return empty-handed due to quick thinking on the man's part and pressure from concerned American citizens

Essentially, the story is that the man was stopped by ICE taking his daughter to school. (Clearly, a HUGE threat to national security) They allowed him to drop off the daughter, but to report to back for...whatever ICE does to people. The man wisely decided to stay inside the school, which equally wisely, requires a warrant. For some strange reason, ICE agents couldn't produce a warrant (why not?), casting doubt on their stated intention to protect American citizens from dangerous criminals. ICE agents have murdered American citizens and no one was apprehended for those murders, let alone charged and sentenced, so if you ask Americans who the dangerous criminals are, you'll get a pretty obvious answer to that question.
Concerned citizens gathered in the area and the cowards fled, this time.
